Bailey’s adventure: Dog days of Summer…

18 Sep

A few weekends ago we took Bailey to Bok Tower gardens.  Two times a year they have a “dog days” where they allow dogs into the gardens! Since we adopted our Bailey-boo, I had wanted to take him.

We were a bit nervous. When we got Bailey he was scared and hesitant of a lot. The whole new world to him with us, but we worked with a trainer for a few months to teach him to listen to us, share, meet new people, and not be as aggressive.  He has met a lot of new people lately, and he did ok. He let us know when he had too much and got a bit grumpy, but told us by growling so we removed him!

We drove the 1 hour there and we pulled up and he barked at the woman taking his entry fee.  I told him if he keeps barking we are taking him home right away! He stopped. Haha.

We got out of the car, he heard dogs, wagged his tail and stayed near us.  So we decided to approach.  We were in and immediately got stopped by a photographer.   Apparently Bailey is a star dog as this was the theme of the day. Everyone wanted his photo. There was a bit of an event with groomers and vets.  He seemed a bit nervous, stayed close and sniffed other four-legged friends.  We went out and did into the gardens.  Someone was SO proud with their tail up most of the day!!!

He met a lot of friends and only growled once when a small one went directly under him and was in his business.  We got him away, and it was definitely just a warning growl.

At home, Bailey loves the mulch, he stays off the grass a lot, but here, ever so often he ran into it!  We were surprised, but amused.  We were very proud of him.

His tail stayed up, and he heard a bunch of other dogs bark.  He was not a social barker.  He just listened and then ignored.  luckily it was overcast, so it wasn’t too hot.  They had a few water bowls, but we had brought our own.  We bought a bottle of water and he drank.

We made him stop and wait while we sat here and there to get him to calm down as he wanted to see EVERYTHING!!!

We sat, we rested, we had fun. We let him lead us around, but ever so often we took him to someplace we knew he’d like.  We were there for about an hour and a half when we decided to call it.

We went back to the car and he was much calmer going through all the people and other dogs.  He curled up and slept the entire way home.  I definitely think it was a successful day!
