San Francisco…

15 Mar

We are now a week home from our amazing 4th Wedding Anniversary vacation! I loved every single second of it!  I have quite a few blogs I want to get written San Francisco, driving up Highway 1, Walt Disney Family Museum, Disneyland, 1901 at DCA, and riding the Lilly Belle!  However, for some reason I am starting with one on San Francisco!

We arrived at LAX at around 11:30 a.m. Our plan was to get a rental car and then drive up to San Francisco. It is a great plan on paper, but the whole time line of it had me rethinking it once we started driving. Our goal was to drive up Highway 1 and stop and see some giant redwoods on our way up. That seems like a story for another blog though!

Once we got to San Francisco we crashed.  Our hotel included free parking (unheard of in San Fran!) was safe, clean, and in a great location. It worked out perfectly for us crashing soon after our arrival at 9pm.  We had big plans to go to the Walt Disney Family Museum the next day.  However, we woke up at 5am wide awake.

We got our things packed and headed out! We drove down Lombard Street (must see this craziness!) and drove past the Full House house!

Full House!

Full House!

Full House – except they had the door painted because apparently the owner hates that their house is known for Full House!

We then headed over to the Golden Gate Bridge and saw it from a LOT of different angles!  There are a bunch of free and paid parking areas. We ended up stopping at 3 of them. We saw a little museum they have built about the building of the bridge and uses of the bay.  We also walked through the old Army grounds that they used during World War II.  It was amazing to see something that I’ve only seen in pictures.

That above is a self portrait thanks to the timer on my camera and my husband to help me get the shot lined up!  We were there by 8am which was nice as it wasn’t too crowded except for a bunch of bikers and runners.

We spent about 2 hours going to see all the different remainders of the base, out onto the fishing pier, and just walking around!

Loved seeing Sea Lions or Otters, I can never remember! There were a bunch of them!

It was the start of a great first day of vacation.  We were instantly relaxed, enjoying the hike (some of those hills are massive) and just loved spending time together!

We will definitely be back someday in the future. After all, I have plans to see Yosemite someday which is in Northern California too!, so we might as well drop by again!

Yay! I’m glad you started your recap. I’ve only been to SF once and I need to take hubby there. That’s so funny about the FH house. I wonder if it looks that way on the inside too? lol If we plan a trip, I’ll definitely ask you where you stayed. You’re totally right – free parking is unheard of!

i know! when i saw it was free we were super happy. biggest complaint was that the towels smelled like bleach, but at least you know they are clean!

Agreed. There are definitely worse smells out there. 😉
